10–18 January 2010

  • Crossing a bridge, with a tunnel just ahead.
  • More pines and meadows.
  • The mountains' skeleton is showing.
  • Sidings are necessary to enable east- and westbound trains to pass.
  • And there's the westbound train.
  • Dos Chepes.
  • Even in the most rural towns TV is essential.
  • At every stop crafts are for sale.
  • The San Rafael station.
  • Those pines are a commercial resource.
  • At last we arrive at Divisadero (continental divide), at 7,800 ft above sea level.
  • Having sat for six hours, some of us are eager to walk to the hotel...
  • ... while others take the bus ...
  • ... and our luggage goes by truck.
  • The view from la Posada Mirador.
  • A couple of Rarámuri dwellings perched on promontories.
